Richmond Wins Finale, Prepares for District

The Richmond Men's Basketball team closed out their regular season win a win, defeating the visiting Cros-Lex Pioneers, 56-47. The win improves the Blue Devils' record to 15-5 overall, and 10-4 in the conference.

The home team was led by senior Jesse Depauw's 19 points and 4 rebounds. Senior Josh Queen chipped in with 11 points and 4 assists, and senior Chris Schroudt contributed 9 points and 4 rebounds. The hosts outscored the visting Pioneers 21-13 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. In addition, the game marked the debut of James Bruinsma, who has served as a student coach the past three years. Bruinsma took the floor with the varsity for the first time, and joined the team on the bench for the game.

The Blue Devils now turn their attention to the post-season. The district tournament will be held at home for the first time since 2005, and Richmond will take on Marine City at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 9. The Blue Devils have lost in the state tournament opening game the last two seasons. The last time the Blue Devils took on the Mariners was in the regional round of the state tournament in 2005, when the Mariners ended Richmond's season with a 53-39 loss.
