Vansimaeys Provides Solid Leadership

2/18/2010

One of the season’s most pleasant surprises has been the steady play of senior guard Nick Vansimaeys. Nick has been a member of the program for several years, dating back to biddy-ball and middle school basketball. Last year as a junior, Nick made his mark at the varsity level by becoming one of the team’s best defenders. This season, he has added ball-handler and play maker to his resume. “Nick’s play has been huge for us’, Coach Barnes recently expressed. “He is easily one of our most valuable players. He handles the ball against pressure, gets us into our offense, and guards the other team’s best player. Best of all, he definitely has a team-first attitude. He’ll do whatever we need for us to win, and we’re really fortunate to have several guys with that kind of attitude.” Nick is also one of the team’s best free throw shooters, and is shooting 82% in fourth quarters this year. “We love having him up there with the game on the line”, added Barnes. One of the keys to Richmond’s successful season has been Vansimayes’ transition to the point guard position, after spending most of his career as a two-guard. “It’s been great for our team”, explains Barnes. “Our turnovers are done, we’re shooting a higher percentage, and you can attribute both those things to Nick”.

Come see Nick Vansimayes finish his senior season. The Blue Devils last home games are Feb 24 against Ferndale University, and Feb 26 against Almont.
