3/02/2010

Richmond made six three-pointers in the first period Saturday, and that hot start proved to be the difference, as the host Blue Devils defeated the Almont Raiders, 68-61. The win, combined with an Armada loss, helped clinch a share of the BWAC conference championship. Richmond can claim sole possession of the title with a win next week.

Dustin Dagastino and Nick Manchik each scored 25 points to propel Richmond to the victory Saturday. Nick Vansimaeys provided a solid floor game and great defense, despite battling flu-like symptoms. The victory also celebrated the careers of Richmond's four seniors. Luke Beversdorf, Cameron Wright, Dagastino and Vansimayes also celebrated their last home game with a victory. "Those guys did today what they've done all year..." said Coach Barnes after the game. "They provided good defense, solid leadership, and the same type of team-first mentality that they have all year. They epitomize what this program is all about."

On Wednesday, the Blue Devils raced out to a 32-15 halftime lead against University (Ferndale) High School to secure thier 15th win of the season, winning by a final margin of 61-38.
