Scott Bruyneel
Assistant - Varsity Basketball

Coach Scott Bruyneel is entering his second season as a member of the Richmond Basketball Program, serving as a Varsity Assistant Coach. Coach Bruyneel helped the Blue Devils to 1 16-6 mark in his first season with the program. His primary responsibilities include working with the post players and game management.

Coach Bruyneel arrived at Richmond after eight seasons as the Varsity Assistant Coach at Birmingham Groves, working with Hall of Fame coach Bill Norton. At Groves, Bruyneel was an integral part of the success of the Falcons leading them to a League championship, two OAA tournament championships, and two district titles. Bruyneel has aided in the development of several college scholarship athletes including all-state and Mr. Basketball candidate Vladimiras Severovas (Oakland University) and all-state guard Giordan Watson (Central Michigan University, Eisbaeren Bremerhaven). Also under his tutelage were Deon’tae Pannell and Aaron Webster, both of whom are playing football for Penn State University and the University of Cincinnati (respectively).

Bruyneel brings extensive coaching experience to the program. He has coached middle school and high school basketball for over 16 years. In addition, he has coached at several college camps and clinics including Five Star. "Scott has been a huge addition to our staff", said Coach Barnes when asked about the staff addition. "He has really made an impact with our team and coaches. You can already see the difference with our bigs. I knew having him would be a good deal for us, but I never knew it would be this good. We're such a better basketball team with him here."

Coach Bruyneel is a 1988 graduate of Richmond High School. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1994 from Eastern Michigan University and a Master’s Degree in Athletic Administration from Wayne State University in 2000.

Coach Bruyneel teaches sixth grade science at Berkshire Middle School in the Birmingham Public Schools. Bruyneel, his wife Katie, and three children Keara (7), Brennan (5), and Braeden (3) reside in Columbus Township.
