Micheal Pearson
Head Coach - Freshman Basketball

Coach Pearson is entering his fifth season as a member of the Richmond Basketball Program. He has a love for the game of basketball and a passion for working with kids to improve their game. Prior to coming to Richmond, he volunteered time while student teaching in Coleman, Michigan and at Croswell-Lexington, his alma mater. “Mike is an integral part of our staff”, says Coach Barnes. He has always done an outstanding job with getting our young athletes acclimated to our program and culture. Kids really enjoy playing for him, and we know how extremely important that is.”

Coach Pearson served the program in the role of JV coach during the 2008-2009 season, leading the team to an 8-12 record. The previous three years, Coach Pearson was the program’s freshmen coach, compiling an impressive 47-11 record during that time.

Coach Pearson has been playing basketball since 5th grade. “The first time I remember picking up a basketball was during lunch, while our 5th grade science teacher, Mr. Wallace, would supervise us. We used to play everyday. I was definitely a gym rat.” He attended Croswell-Lexington High School and graduated in 1997. He was a two-year starter at shooting guard for the Pioneers. “One of my fondest memories was playing in the district championship against Marysville my senior year. We lost by 10.”

After high school, Coach Pearson attended Central Michigan University. “I probably played pick up basketball more than I attended class my first few years in college. I lived in the student activity center.” While at CMU, he enrolled in a few coaching classes and fundamentals of basketball. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education in 2004.

Coach Pearson teaches Biology, Chemistry, and Earth Science at Richmond High School. He also coaches Boys and Girls Varsity Tennis. “The small town atmosphere is great to be a part of and I love working with everyone in Richmond. I can also add that learning how to coach the game of basketball with Coach Barnes has been a great experience and I look forward to many successful years to come.”
