Micheal Pearson
Head Coach - Junior Varsity Basketball

Coach Pearson is entering his third season as a member of the Richmond Basketball Program. He has a love for the game of basketball and a passion for working with kids to improve their game. He coached the freshman basketball team over the course of the past two seasons; his only two as a head coach. Prior to coming to Richmond, he volunteered time while student teaching in Coleman, Michigan and at Croswell-Lexington, his alma mater.

During the 2006-2007 season, the freshman team finished with a 13-7 overall record under coach Pearson. The team averaged 38.3 points per game and held opponents to a low average of 33.9 points per game.

The 2005-2006 season was Coach Pearson’s first year as a head coach. The freshman team finished with an impressive 16-3 overall record, averaging 47.4 points per game and holding opponents to 37.9 points per game. The team also shot 60 % from the free throw line.

Coach Pearson has been playing basketball since 5th grade. “The first time I remember picking up a basketball was during lunch, while our 5th grade science teacher, Mr. Wallace, would supervise us. We used to play everyday. I was definitely a gym rat.” He attended Croswell-Lexington High School and graduated in 1997. He was a two-year starter at shooting guard for the Pioneers. “One of my fondest memories was playing in the district championship against Marysville my senior year. We lost by 10.”

After high school, Coach Pearson attended Central Michigan University. “I probably played pick up basketball more than I attended class my first few years in college. I lived in the student activity center.” While at CMU, he enrolled in a few coaching classes and fundamentals of basketball. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education in 2004.

Coach Pearson teaches Biology, Chemistry, and Earth Science at Richmond High School. He also coaches Boys and Girls Varsity Tennis. “The small town atmosphere is great to be a part of and I love working with everyone in Richmond. I can also add that learning how to coach the game of basketball with Coach Barnes has been a great experience and I look forward to many successful years to come.”

Coach Pearson is a member of the Basketball Coaches’ Association of Michigan (BCAM). He also resides in Richmond.
