Bob Salankiewicz
Assistant - Varsity Basketball

Coach Bob Salankiewicz enters his second season as a Varsity Assistant under Head Coach Jim Barnes. His duties include player development, game preparation, and scouting. He brings an extensive basketball background and experiences to the program along with a passion for the game.

“I appreciate having the opportunity to help lead and contribute to the successful program that Coach Barnes has established at Richmond. There is great satisfaction in giving back to the game that has provided fond memories and friendships.” Sal credits his parents for much of the influence and lessons learned through athletics.

A native of Binghamton, NY, “Sal” graduated from Seton Catholic Central High School. He earned New York State All Southern Tier honors as a three-year letterman in both basketball and baseball while setting a number of school records. Upon his graduation, Sal played collegiate basketball at Potsdam State, an NCAA Division III program that has five national championship game appearances, winning the title twice. Sal was a member of a national championship runner-up team as a freshman. He transferred and finished his career at then NAIA Division I Westminster College while earning his degree in Business Administration.

“Sal is a tremendous asset to our program”, says Coach Barnes of his assistant. “He is incredible with kids, providing an environment of mutual respect. He does a great job with individual development, and is a big help in the areas of scouting and game planning. Our program immediately got better upon his arrival.”

Coach Salankiewicz is a member of the Basketball Coaches’ Association of Michigan (BCAM). Sal and his wife, Maria, reside in Richmond with their three sons, Mark (15), Matthew (11), and Maxwell (3).
