Steve Winters
Assistant - Varsity Basketball

Coach Steve Winters starts his first year with the Blue Devils, as a Varsity Assistant under Head Coach Jim Barnes. Steve is a 2002 graduate of Yale High School, where he played at the Varsity level for (then) Coach Barnes. ."I was surprised and excited when I received the call from coach, about getting involved in the program. It's great to get back in to the gym. We have a great group of kids that are passionate about the game and improving as a team. I look forward to working with the players, coaches, and families as we continue to grow and build our program."

Upon graduation of high school, Steve enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. After four years of honorable service as an active duty infantryman (serving with the Marine Corps Security Force Battallion and the 1st Battallion 4th Marine infantry division), he returned to his hometown of Yale. Steve is currently in the Marine Reserves until December 2010

Coach Winters is responsible for on-the-floor coaching during practice, and helps with the development of the perimeter players. “Steve has been a huge asset for our program”, explains Coach Barnes. I knew when we hired Steve that we were going to get a great role model for our players, but I had no idea he would develop into such a quality coach so fast. The best thing about Steve is simple… our players respond to him. That’s the ultimate compliment for any coach”.

Coach Winters is a member of the Basketball Coaches’ Association of Michigan (BCAM). Steve is currently a full time student working on a degree, in business administration majoring in finance, from the University of Michigan. He is also a licensed insurance agent in property and casualty, life, and health and is employed at the Kerrins-Winters Insurance agency in Yale. He resides in Yale with his wife Rachel and their three kids: Riley (2), Logan (2), and Reese (7mths).
